ISH Dance Collective brings football to the theatre with the new production, FTBLL – Can you kick it
Street footballers, freestyle football, and breakdance stars explode on the stage with dazzling footwork and impressive power moves. Accompanied by hiphop beats and spoken word, eight performers show how to transport street smarts to the theatre.
Street football, freestyle football and breakdance, for the first time together on stage.
For choreographer Marco Gerris, nothing is impossible. Certainly not bringing football and dance together in the theatre. Inspired by choreographies found hidden in the city, ISH Dance Collective makes the poetry of the street become a tangible presence on the stage.
In FTBLL we discover that the movements of football and dance are similarly virtuosic and that breaking, street football, and freestyle football are more than just spectacular ‘battles’. This is a performance that invites us to share the personal stories of the performers, stories that have inspired their fervor and drive and brought them to the peak of their discipline. FTBALL captures the fire and passion of the footballers and dancers as they show us how a ball can become a life raft on which to escape a difficult situation.
